- A tour of the Castle
and through almost
a 1000 years
of history -

T

This castle, over a 1000 years old and with its rich history, provides an unknown high for those keen on historical buildings. The extraordinary round structure of the castle has been as good as completely preserved.
The oldest mention of Castel di Luco, on an official seal by Pope Leone IX, dates back to the year 1052. Since that time, it has regularly been the centre of quite a few important historical events.
From the 15th century on, the noble family Giucci lived in Castel di Luco, until the last heiress Maria married an Amici in 1800. Up till now, the Amici family is the proud owner of the castle: Laura and her brother Francesco still live here with their families.

Guests do not stay in the castle, but in the little houses that are built around the fortress. They have been turned into several suites. These houses - they have been here since 1400 - are named after the grandmothers of the Amici family.
They were decorated to provide guests with all modern comfort while at the same time preserving the authenticity. Old materials were used and even the furniture is in perfect harmony with the character of the castle.

For those on a tour of Italy, those that are not in a hurry or those looking for something special, the drive from San Benedetto del Tronto by the Adriatic Coast through Ascoli to Roma is a real adventure.
Castel di Luco would then be the perfect stopover.
